Only a small fraction of life makes it into the fossil record. Most living organisms simply disappear without a trace. Phareodus was a genus of freshwater fish from the Eocene to the Oligocene of Australia, Europe and North America, with an oval outline, a small head, and a slightly pointed snout. This striking piece of natural history contains a 4.75″ Phareodus.

The Fossil Record is the history of life on earth as documented by the remains or imprints of organisms preserved in sedimentary rock. Mioplosus is an extinct genus of percid fish that lived from the early to middle Eocene. Mioplosus have pointed teeth and are believed to have been voracious predators: individuals have been found with fish lodged in its throat. Mioplosus fossils are never found in large groups, which suggest they were solitary. A small schooling fish, Knightia made an abundant food source for larger Eocene predators. This striking piece of natural history contains a 13.5″ Mioplosus and 4.25″ Knightia.

Southwest Wyoming’s Green River Formation has preserved spectacular, detailed, and complete fish fossils from the Eocene Epoch of approximately 50 million years ago. Notogoneus is an extinct genus of prehistoric ray-finned fish Diplomystus is an extinct genus of freshwater clupeomorph fish distantly related to modern-day extant herrings, alewives, and sardines. This striking piece of natural history contains a 21″ Notogoneus (front) and a 4.75″ Diplomystus dentatus (back).

Canadian Ammonite

Canadian ammonites are rare. These exceptionally scarce fossils are sought after by museums and private collectors the world over. They are at the pinnacle of these collections and make some of the most popular museum displays with their brilliant array of colours.

As rare as they are beautiful, all Ammonite fossils are one of a kindÃ¢â‚¬â€unique in brilliance and color. While ammonite fossils are found on every continent in rock formations from 400 million to 65 million years in age, only in southern Alberta, Canada are they found with these distinctly bright, beautiful and iridescent colors. Colorful Canadian Ammonites are found east of the Rocky Mountains in the Upper Cretaceous Bearpaw Formation, which dates back approximately 71 million years. Millions of years of tectonic pressure, heat and mineralization have resulted in the formation of these geological wonders.
