The Fossil Record is the story of Earth’s epic that unfolded over billions of years. It could be likened to a movie of the history of life across all geological time. The problem is that only a small fraction of the film’s frames was preserved. Diplomystus is an extinct genus of freshwater clupeomorph fish distantly related to modern-day extant herrings, alewives, and sardines. This beautiful piece of prehistoric fossil art contains a left-facing Diplomystus.
